In 2014, AlderEgo Distribution was founded in the back of a convenience store in Alder, Washington (about 20 minutes before the entrance of Mount Rainier National Park on highway 7).
Due to relaxed laws surrounding cannabis, nearly everyone in the area was growing under the guise of being a “medical marijuana caregiver.” Folks had lots of weed, but few options for pipes and other paraphernalia, so we stocked the store with these products.
If you have owned or worked at a convenience store, then you understand that re-stocking and running promotions are mostly managed by your vendors. For example, if you’re going to sell Coca-Cola, they provide you with Coca-Cola coolers and stock it with their most popular items. Their goal is to maximize sales that is good for both your store and them. For those of you that aren’t aware, Coca-Cola has a lot of brands: Sprite, Fanta, Fresca, Dasani, Vitamin Water, Minute Maid, Honest Tea, Odwalla and many more.
When we began selling paraphernalia, there was no distributor like Coca-Cola. This was a “light bulb” moment when we looked at each other and asked, “Why couldn’t we do this?”
AlderEgo was created and within 30 days, we had designed all-natural wood displays with tempered-glass shelves, LED-lighting and a collection of best-selling items that could be offered as a “Turn-Key Headshop” for medical marijuana dispensaries. We structured distribution partnerships with Grav Labs, Chameleon Glass, Compton Grinders, Skilletools, Kandy Pens, RAW papers, Klear Kryptonite, etc.
The benefits were obvious for our partners:
- We made it easy for them to sell paraphernalia,
- We consulted them on best-selling items to maximize sales,
- We both made money selling accessories.
Within another 30 days, we had partnered within 25 medical marijuana shops in the area. Within another 30 days, we added another 25 partners and by the end of our first year, we had over 240 partners throughout Washington & Oregon.
